We invite Aisling who we share stage with on the 19th March to share her expert knowledge on why like us weight goes way beyond the scales. At Liquid Lipo we look at the individual as often its inflammation at the route cause and we explore below the effects of a toxic lifestyle (And we don't mean your Ex)
In a world obsessed with scales and numbers, I propose a radical idea: that weighing scales belong nowhere outside the kitchen, and even there, their use should be sporadic at best. Unless directed by a medical professional of course! Why? Well health, in my view, is not always about the digits that stare back at you. It's about energy, focus, immunity, how you feel in your own skin and happiness—the intangible elements that truly define our well-being.
Aisling Louise Owens Nash (Me!) once said, "I don't believe weighing scales should be used anywhere but a kitchen, and I don't even use them there often! Health, to me, should be measured in energy, focus, immunity, and happiness."
Let's explore why a holistic approach to health is not only liberating but also essential.
Energy as the True Currency of Well-being: Forget the exhausting pursuit of a particular weight goal. Instead, channel your energy into cultivating a lifestyle that fuels you. A nutrient-rich diet, regular exercise, and adequate rest can do wonders for your vitality.
Focus on Nourishing Your Mind and Body: Rather than fixating on the number of pounds, shift your focus to nourishing your mind and body. Incorporate various nutrient-dense foods, stay hydrated, and indulge in activities that bring you joy. The benefits will extend far beyond the scale.
Boost Immunity Naturally: A lower-tox living perspective emphasises reducing exposure to harmful substances. By opting for organic, locally sourced foods and minimising exposure to toxins, you're supporting your overall health and giving your immune system a natural boost and you’re helping the environment too. Win-Win!
Measure Happiness, Not Numbers: The ultimate goal is happiness. Engage in activities that bring you joy, surround yourself with positivity, and foster connections that nourish your soul. Happiness is a powerful indicator of well-being that transcends the limitations of any scale.
Choose your measurements in advance: Decide what it is you want to measure. When I support my clients on a healthy living (eating and mindset) programme I run through several scales with them- energy, sleep quality, and stress to start with. We look at where they currently are and where they want to be and discuss any other habits or changes that might support moving to their desired number on a scale of 1-10. We also discuss if they would prefer to take their measurements- chest, waist, hips for example at the beginning or if they really like to use a weighing scale and note their current weight at the start and then a weight at the end. If they love a weighing scale that is their choice but I actively discourage using it daily or even weekly and we will agree on days to use the scale. In other words, I’m flexible to work with you in the way you are most comfortable but I do personally believe in removing the scales as we are trying to focus your brain to look at the areas that bring more positivity - energy sleep quality, focus, stress etc while eating the right foods that naturally help support your weight management goals.
Now, sometimes losing weight for some people is extra tough as we can develop stubborn fat that just doesn’t seem to want to shift no matter what we try. So, in the interest of being fair and balanced, do remember that working on this is a holistic approach… working from the inside, including our mindset, happiness, and food choices as mentioned above but we often need help on the outside too, additional nutrients from nutrition or even body care products. Help to tighten up loose skin from weight loss and even sometimes helps to break down those stubborn fats from the outside with advanced products and services that can help with that stubborn challenge.
When researching, and no I don’t mean just doing a quick Google and picking the item with the most stars on it or up highest on the Google search, make sure to look for some of the following to help you to make the right choice for you.
Is it a reputable brand?
Can you see who the company is owned by, what are the terms and conditions?
Is there clear information on how the product works?
Is there transparency of key ingredients- remember nobody is going to give away all their secrets but once there is an ingredients list this is most important.
You can copy and paste that list into an independent ingredients checker online if you choose to. There are many apps and websites to do this on. I often go to the ewg.org/skindeep site.
Is there a FAQ page where you can see questions and answers
What are the possible side effects- would you still be happy and comfortable if you end up having the worst side effect to get the results you wanted?
Can you submit a question somewhere for a response if it is not covered on the FAQ’s?
Are there easily accessible testimonials, on the website and when you search online too for independent ones,
Can you ask in your circles who have tried your shortlisted products?
Are there clinical trials to back up the product or the key ingredients and their uses?
Choosing a lower-tox lifestyle opens up a world of possibilities beyond the constraints of weight-centric goals. It's about embracing habits that align with your well-being and contribute to a healthier, happier you.
Remember, health is a journey, not a destination. Let's measure it in the moments of boundless energy, the clarity of focus, the resilience of our immune systems, and the sheer joy of living.
